Company Management
Company Management allows you to define the organizational entities that own and operate your IT assets. By associating Configuration Items with companies, you gain clear visibility into which business entity is responsible for each asset.
Overview
In many organizations, IT assets are shared across multiple companies, subsidiaries, divisions, or partner organizations. NopeSight's Company Management provides a structured way to:
- Track asset ownership across multiple legal entities
- Segregate assets by business unit for reporting and compliance
- Manage multi-company environments such as holding companies with subsidiaries
- Associate cost centers and budgets with the correct business entity
Accessing Company Management
- Navigate to Settings in the main navigation
- Select Companies from the settings menu
- The Company List displays all configured companies

Assigning Assets to Companies
Once companies are defined, you can associate any Configuration Item with a company:
- Open the CI in the CMDB
- In the Asset section, find the Company dropdown
- Select the appropriate company
- Save the changes
Company Hierarchy
Companies work alongside other organizational entities to create a complete asset ownership structure:
Company (who owns it)
└── Cost Center (who pays for it)
└── Site (where it is physically)
└── Stockroom (where it is stored)
This hierarchy enables powerful filtering and reporting:
- View all assets owned by a specific subsidiary
- Track IT spending by company and cost center
- Generate compliance reports per legal entity
Company-Based Reporting
With company assignments in place, you can:
- Filter CI lists by company to see only relevant assets
- Run reports scoped to a specific company
- Track device counts per company for license allocation
- Monitor warranty status across different business entities
Editing a Company
- Click on a company row in the Company List
- Modify the desired fields
- Click Save Changes
Deleting a Company
A company cannot be deleted if Configuration Items are assigned to it. First reassign or remove all CIs from the company.
- Select the company to delete
- Click the Delete button
- Confirm the deletion
Best Practices
Naming Conventions
- Use official legal entity names for compliance reporting
- Use short, recognizable codes (e.g., "ACME-EU" for the European subsidiary)
- Include the entity type in the description for clarity
Multi-Company Environments
- Define the parent company as type Enterprise
- Create each subsidiary with type Subsidiary
- Associate cost centers with the appropriate company
- Use company codes in asset tags for quick identification
Data Quality
- Keep contact information current
- Review company assignments during asset audits
- Archive inactive companies rather than deleting them
